About Me

Hi, I'm Oluwatunmise Akanmu Environmental Scientist with a deep passion for understanding and protecting the planet.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Geology and my first Master’s degree in Economic Geology from Ajayi Crowther University, Nigeria, where my focus on mineral resources sparked a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship.

Driven by a desire to connect science to sustainability, I pursued a second Master’s degree in Environmental Science at Georgia Southern University, USA, where my focus expanded to water quality, environmental justice, and ecosystem health.

My research centered on pinpointing critical groundwater discharge locations in Florida Bay. Using geochemical tracers and spatial analysis, I aim to protect coastal zones while contributing to long-term climate resilience strategies.

I am now continuing my academic journey as a PhD student in Environmental Science, advancing research that addresses real-world environmental challenges.

My work spans soil, air, water, and environmental justice, using tools like GIS, geochemistry, and field-based research to explore how natural systems affect, and are affected by the communities they support.

Currently, whether in the field, the classroom, or the community, I’m committed to making environmental science practical, inclusive, and transformative.

Beyond the Lab: Serving the Community

Science, to me, is not just about discovery, it’s about impact. Alongside my academic and fieldwork, I’ve dedicated time to service and community action, blending science with compassion.
